What was planned:
Tuesday: 5 Thursday: 16 Saturday: 30 min / 8x20 strides/ 30 min Sunday: 7
Wow, what an eventful, jam-packed week. So eventful that I didn't even have this written and am posting it a day late. Also, I'm keeping this short and sweet because I'm still pretty tired. I had to re-work my entire running schedule this week to make the runs happen. Unfortunately, I only hit 3 of the four planned. If you follow me on social media, you've seen by now that we adopted and brought home 2 greyhounds Friday night.
What got done:
Tuesday: I squeezed these 5 miles in quickly after work on the CVT and before heading to the Mann in Philly for the National concert.
Thursday: Knowing that we potentially were heading to State College Friday, I moved my long run to Thursday, and I'm so glad I did. I was playing with the idea of doing it Sunday, but I was so tired it wouldn't have been enjoyable. Honestly, this long run wasn't that enjoyable on Thursday either, but at least I had adequate sleep for it. I wasn't expecting it to be so warm outside, and I definitely felt fatigued and overall crappy from the warmer weather. I also started the run a bit too fast and paid for it at the end when I started to bonk.
Saturday: I had moved my strides run to Saturday, thinking I could hit this run after work on the trail. I worked Saturday morning, too, after minimal sleep from our first night with our new additions. That, plus 6 hours in a car, was a terrible combination for my body. I finished work, stopped by the pet store for extra supplies, and napped once I got home. I thought I would feel a bit better after my nap but didn't, so I decided to skip this run. The first run I missed my entire training cycle. I feel a bit guilty about it and wish I pushed it to the top of the week, but at the end of the day, 1 5-ish mile run isn't going to undo my training, and the extra rest is always good and certainly welcome at this point in training.
Sunday: I had my second long run planned on Sunday, so I headed to the CVT in KOP to join a group run with some of my co-workers. I did 2 miles before everyone arrived, hit 3 with the group, and finished the last 2 by myself. The 3 in-between were fun and a nice way to break up a longer run. Upon finishing, I rushed home to be back with my new babies! It's been difficult leaving them. We spent the afternoon hanging out and snuggling before my husband and I left for my Dad's birthday party.
We originally planned to adopt after my race in October, but all the dogs we were interested in got adopted (a great problem to have), so we scheduled a meeting Friday night. We had a few dogs in mind to meet but weren't sure if we would be coming home with any of them. We met them and quickly fell in love. Elton snuggled up to my husband and chose him, and Blossom chose me. My husband and I looked at each other and agreed to bring home both of them - his and her dogs.
I can't believe I'm in the final weeks of my training. I grow more excited each day as we get closer and closer. Cheers to this last week of higher mileage before it's taper time!
